Liturgical Ministries

Altar Linens

Volunteers take turns taking home soiled purificators and other altar linens after each weekend's liturgies, and return them clean and pressed in time for the next weekend.

Contact: Sharon Nelson, 380-2961

Altar Servers

Youth in grades 5 and up are invited to more actively participate in Sunday and Holy day liturgies by assisting the Presider and helping to prepare the table for Eucharist. Training is provided, and servers can expect to be scheduled about twice a month.

Baptism and First Communion Aides

Volunteers meet with Baptismal families or First Communicants and their families before the scheduled liturgy, making them feel welcome and comfortable, and smoothing last minute preparations and/or questions. They also set out needed items, mark reserved pews with bows, and take home used towels to wash. Other volunteers may help with banner making and the cross stitching of mementos.

Contact: Martha Dishner, 772-1925

Environment and Art

Members of this committee focus on the physical and aesthetic appearance of the worship space. They plan and create visual enhancements, such as floral arrangements, and care for other liturgical items, such as candles and vessels, that give flavor and shape to the liturgical seasons. Meetings are held as needed.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (formerly Eucharistic ministers) have the very special privilege of sharing Jesus' own gift of his Body and Blood with members of our parish family. They also help prepare vessels before Mass, set the Eucharistic table and clean up afterwards. Confirmed youth, 10th grade and up, and adults serve at weekend liturgies and Holy days on a rotating schedule, 2-3 times per month. Training is provided.

Contacts: Dennis Kafura, 540-380-3858;

Funeral Coordinators

Volunteers set out needed items, assist with calling other needed ministers, and are available to serve as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion if needed. Training is provided.

Greeters and Ushers

Our Greeters and ushers have the important role of making the members of the community, as well as visitors, welcome as they gather for worship. Other duties include assisting with seating, taking up collection(s), and distributing bulletins. They also hand out song sheets. This is a wonderful ministry for all ages.

Lectors

Lectors proclaim the Word of God whenever the community gathers to worship. A lector's gifts include the ability to speak with clarity and expression, and the willingness to use these gifts to share the Word of God with others. Adults, confirmed youth, and youth preparing for confirmation (in attendance at 10th & 11th grade religious formation classes) commit to prepare assigned readings ahead of time and to serve on Sundays and Holy days 1-2 times per month. This involves studying the Scripture passage to determine its message, looking at the reading in the context of other readings at that liturgy, and practicing it silently and aloud. Training and materials are provided.

Music Ministries

Choir, Adult

The adult choir provides musical leadership at Sunday and Holy day liturgies, as well as occasional performances. Previous musical training is not required, and members range from high school through adult. Rehearsals are held on Thursdays from 7:30 - 9:00 September through May, and there is a 20 minute warm-up before each Mass.

Contact: Barbara Fraticelli, 387-0491

Choir, Children's

The Children's Choir allows 1st graders and up to develop a sense of ministry, to learn basic choral techniques, and to sing in two parts. The choir leads one Saturday or Sunday Mass a month, plus some feasts and concert situations. Rehearsals are TBD, October through April.

Contact: Barbara Fraticelli, 387-0491

Cantors

Cantors combine the roles of Lector and musician, using their musical and vocal gifts to proclaim the psalms and canticles, as well as to assist the assembly's participation. Vocal experience, music reading ability, and a desire for prayerful reflection and study of the Psalms are required.

Contact: Barbara Fraticelli, 387-0491

Instrumentalists

Various instruments can be used, either regularly or on special occasions, to augment choral and congregational singing. Instrumentalists need to have at least High School level proficiency. Improvisation skills are useful, but not necessary. Rehearsals are arranged as needed.

Eucharistic Adoration

This rewarding devotion is a committment to spend an hour each week in silent prayer with our Lord Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. Come, be at peace, give Him thanks and praise, seek forgiveness, read the bible, say the Rosary, or just "be still and know...." Eucharistic Adoration is in the Chapel each Wednesday between the hours of 3 PM and 9 PM.
